We’ll be up early for a boating safari across the lake and bid good morning to the hippos as we gently glide by. This is a fun moment to take in the brightening day and spot birds and perhaps some antelope grazing on the shore. Nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary provides us with an opportunity to take a guided walking safari to this peaceful but active little reserve. Should you wish, hop on a bicycle for an optional trip over to Hell’s Gate National Park where we can hike or pedal by antelope, zebra, and other peaceful gazers.

But now it’s time to head out again across the floor of the Great Rift Valley on our way to Masai Mara Game Reserve. We should arrive in time for lunch and take in the reserve’s green rolling hills and vast plains holding immeasurable wildlife. We’ll relax, freshen up and then embark on our first game drive in the world-famous park.

Day 4

MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE – Full Day

Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

We’ve designed this safari to give you lots of viewing time at Masai Mara so let’s get an early start. Over the next few days, you’ll enjoy unlimited game drives – explore as much or as little as you choose.

But we think you’ll be excited by the possibilities of the Mara. The park presents the largest concentration of wildlife in this region of Africa. The ecosystem is rich, beautiful, and varied offering all the Big Five with a special density of the big cats.

Sightings of lion and cheetah are not uncommon which adds to the excitement of this exciting park. The Mara is also known as the home of the Great Migration – the largest display of migrating animals in the world. Streaming in by the tens of thousands during the season (July – October) you can witness limitless herds of gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra all moving to the timeless rhythms of nature as they search for food on these plains.

Dinner, overnight at your pre-booked camp/Lodge

Day 5

FULL DAY – MASAI MARA

The variety and numbers of wildlife in this park are unequaled and should you be here during the months of July through October, those numbers greatly increase. This is the season of the Great Migration – a yearly parade of up to 2 million migrating wildebeest and zebra swarming through the park in search of fresh grasses on which they survive.

Streaming in over the Mara River from the Serengeti, the hordes of wildlife must brave the crocodiles lying in wait and the many predators in the park such as lion, leopard and cheetah. We’ll travel down to the river and enjoy a picnic lunch amongst these many grazers, looking to spot some of the hunters lurking in the bush.

Our day will be filled with unlimited game drives – explore as much or as little as you wish. Another opportunity on the reserve is an optional visit with the local Maasai people. You can see how they live, their customs and ceremonies and perhaps pick up a beaded souvenir of your time here. For a truly unforgettable experience, try the optional early morning balloon safari over the park. There is nothing like watching the dawn break over the reserve, lighting up the acacia trees and seeing wildlife stirring into the new day. Your guide will be happy to arrange either of these special experiences.

Dinner, overnight at your pre-booked camp/Lodge
