Itinerary:
Day 1
NAIROBI – LAKE NAKURU (100 miles, Approx – 3 hours)
Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner
07:30 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or Nairobi airport. We’ll head out in our private tourist vehicle for Lake Nakuru National Park, taking rest stops along the way to stretch and appreciate views of the Great Rift Valley.
LAKE NAKURU
Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers have been reducing but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills and euphorbia trees dot the lake. The few quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy and full of color.
But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore. The park is also sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino.
Overnight at your pre-booked lodge/ tented camp.
Day 2
LAKE NAKURU – BOGORIA – BARINGO
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The park is the perfect spot for a sunrise safari as the voluminous birdlife emerges into the new day. We’ll see the first rays of light touch the lake, bringing with them the early stirrings of the wildlife.
Then we’ll jump into our customized tourist vehicle for a scenic trip through the Great Rift Valley to nearby Lakes Bogoria and Baringo. Lake Bogoria lies in a volcanic region which accounts for its natural geysers and hot springs, located along the banks of the lake. But the single greatest feature of this reserve is the spectacular flocks of bright colorful flamingos adorning its shores.
If you’d like, enjoy an optional sailing safari across the lake, slicing through this vibrant sea of pink. Neighboring Lake Baringo is rich with algae on which its large flocks of flamingoes feed. The birdwatching is unsurpassed, and you’ll be looking for nightjars, Goliath herons, and hornbills amongst its over 400 species of avian life.
Day 3
LAKE BARINGO – LAKE NAIVASHA– NAIROBI
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch
We’ve got a very busy day before us, so we’ll depart early for Lake Naivasha. The Lake Naivasha area is filled with forests, extinct volcanos, waterfalls, and dramatic gorges. It’s a high-altitude, freshwater lake featuring hippos, aquatic, and birdlife.
But there’s plenty of wildlife as well – view buffalo, impala and waterbuck drawn to the lake’s shores. We’ll lunch here and enjoy a boat ride sail across the lake, taking in the resident hippos. We also offer an optional visit to nearby Hell’s Gate National Park where you can take a walking or cycling safari past the peacefully grazing wildlife. But now it’s time for the easy drive back to Nairobi. Over our 3-day trek you’ve enjoyed many lakes, lots of wildlife and probably thousands of birds, including the always dazzling flamingoes.
